Overview:

This 3 days desert tour from Fes will take you from your hotel or riad in Fes via Ifrane and the Cedar Forest of Azrou, where you’re likely to view monkeys, before passing the Ziz Valley and arriving at the sand dunes of Merzouga. Saharan excursions and additional trips to Fes.

Day 1 : Fes, Middle atlas, Merzouga desert

Our driver and guide will pick you up from your accommodation in Fes between 7 and 8 a.m. on the first day of your 3 days desert tour from Fes. We will go to Ifrane, often known as the “Switzerland of Morocco.” Afterwards, we go to the largest cedar forest in Morocco, close to Azrou, to see wild barbarian monkeys. We will then eat lunch at Midelt.

In the late afternoon, we will cross the Tizi N’talghoumte pass (1907m) and enter the Sahara desert, where we will witness magnificent Berber towns and the vast palm-covered Ziz Valley.

Afterwards, we’ll make our way to Erg-Chebbi, the picturesque nation of sand dunes in Merzouga, where you’ll embark on a camel journey to your desert tent above the spectacular, unique orange sand dunes. Seeing the sun set among the sand dunes is a magnificent experience that may restore your spirit. We will have supper and spend the night in camp, where our culture’s drums will play music and there will be more stars than can be counted.

Day 2: Desert Expedition

After breakfast, our day in the Erg-Chebbi dunes will begin. During our time in Merzouga, we will visit a variety of fascinating sights. At the village of Khamliya, we will pause to hear southern Africans perform traditional African music (Gnawa). Following that, we will continue driving further into the desert until we reach the region beyond the Erg-Chebbi sand dunes. We will visit a ghost town to see some active fossil minerals before meeting a nomadic Berber family and learning more about their lifestyle.

We will return to Khamliya for lunch at a nearby restaurant, where we may sample the region’s renowned food. In the afternoon, we will go to Lake Merzouga. We anticipate finding water and birds such as ducks and flamingos when we arrive. Even though it is parched, we can still see camel pasture, therefore we must seek it. We will spend some time there learning about palm cultivation in the region before returning to the riad by vehicle.

Day 3: The Merzouga Desert, the Ziz Valley, the Cedar Forests, and Fes

After breakfast, we begin our last day by going north via the Tafilalet palm farm. You will see hundreds of palm palms throughout the twenty-kilometer-long journey. This path will lead you to the Ziz valley, where a river from the high Atlas Mountains rushes down to irrigate a palm plantation. We pause here to soak in the spectacular view of the valley and Aoufous settlement below. Again, we’ll stop at Midelt, smack-dab in the center of the Atlas Mountains, for lunch and a rest.

This afternoon, we will go farther into the Cedar Forest. Our best chance is seeing some monkeys. We will next go to Ifrane, a town located at an elevation of 1,630 meters on the northwest slope of the Middle Atlas Mountains. This city resembles a Swiss town due to its wide streets, impeccable urban planning, attractive gardens, abundant green space, and distinctive architecture. There is a peculiar feeling that Ifrane does not belong in Morocco. In addition, there is a big ski resort named Michlifen. We arrive in Fez at around 6:00 p.m., we will drop you off your hotel, and complete our 3 days desert tour from Fes there.
