Fes to Meknes day trip

Itinerary:

Departure your hotel at 9 a.m., we start our Fes to Meknes day trip by traveling across the Saiss Plain to the incredible Roman ruins at Volubilis, the Volubilis of truly ancient olive presses, mansions, incredible mosaics, monumental arches, and Corinthian columns, where you’ll get a true sense of Roman life and a subsequent medieval Berber town. House of the Wild Beast, House of Orpheus, and House of the Abduction of Hylas are all located on the grounds.

After leaving Volubilis, we travel via the gloomy slopes of the Zerhoun Hills on route to the holy town of Moulay Idriss, where thousands of Moroccan Muslims make the yearly pilgrimage to worship at the grave of this descendent of the Prophet Mohammed in August (moussem). Upon reaching the expansive courtyard, we see at the green-tiled pyramids of the Zaouia, which are surrounded by two conical quarters, and then we walk through the labyrinth of lanes to reach the by Moulay Ismail-rebuilt Imperial City.

Proceed to the Imperial City of Meknes! (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). We will visit Bab Mansour, the most beautiful gateway in the whole Maghreb. The Moulay Ismail Mausoleum, the Place el-Hedim, and the famous State-owned stallion stables of Haras, where these Arabo-Berber horses are raised, are all within close proximity to one another. We’ll have time for a (non-included) lunch before departing Meknes at 4:40 and returning to the hotel at 6:15 with the city’s drama, grandeur, and beauty permanently carved in our thoughts.
