5-day desert tour from Fes to Marrakech

Overview:

During this 5-day desert tour from Fes to Marrakech, you will start on a magnificent and relaxing journey around Morocco. This excursion will allow you to see both the high and middle Atlas Mountains. Experience the enigmatic Sahara Desert with a camel ride and a tent stay. Seeing a number of Berber villages and taking in the breathtaking valleys, gorges, and kasbahs.

Day 1: Fez - Ifrane - Midelt – Ziz Gorges - Erfoud - Rissani - Merzouga

Our driver and guide will pick you up from your accommodation in Fes between 7 and 8 a.m. on the first day of your 5-day desert tour from Fes to Marrakech. We will go to Ifrane, often known as the “Switzerland of Morocco.” Afterwards, we go to the largest cedar forest in Morocco, close to Azrou, to see wild barbarian monkeys. We will then eat lunch at Midelt.

In the late afternoon, we will cross the Tizi N’talghoumte pass (1907m) and enter the Sahara desert, where we will witness magnificent Berber towns and the vast palm-covered Ziz Valley.

Afterwards, we’ll make our way to Erg-Chebbi, the picturesque nation of sand dunes in Merzouga, where you’ll embark on a camel journey to your desert tent above the spectacular, unique orange sand dunes. Seeing the sun set among the sand dunes is a magnificent experience that may restore your spirit. We will have supper and spend the night in camp, where our culture’s drums will play music and there will be more stars than can be counted.

Day 2: Merzouga Desert Tour & Camel Trek (Night in Desert Camp)

Following a delicious breakfast, our day of exploration will conclude with a trip to a neighborhood inhabited by people of African heritage with dark skin. In this area, our hosts are Malians.

Following seeing the activity of the Miffis Mines, we will travel over the gorgeous desert hidden behind the dunes and stop for a hot drink with the Bedouins before returning to the hotel.

Before traveling into the mysterious Erg-Chebbi Sand Sea, your local guides will teach you on proper mounting and dismounting skills, as well as other safety precautions. Spend the night in a tent, just like the Berbers do.

Day 3: Merzouga village - Todra Gorge - Dades Valley

After experiencing a spectacular dawn on the dunes, we will ride camels back to the hotel the next morning. Breakfast will be served, and we will then go to Tinghir and the Todra Gorges before completing the day at the Dades Valley.

Day 4: Boumalne Dades - Dades and gorges valley - Skoura - Ouarzazate

We travel across the Dades Gorges and the Dades Valley on route to Ouarzazate and Kalaat M’Gonna, departing immediately after breakfast. The “way of a thousand kasbahs” in Dades Valley is a favorite route for photographers due to the number of breathtaking shooting opportunities along the road.

Afterwards, as we travel through the rose-growing region, we will stop in the “rose city” of Kalaat M’Gonna to load up on rosewater. Following seeing the Kasbah of Ameridil in the oasis of Skoura, we will travel to Ouarzazate, where we will spend the afternoon visiting the Taourirte Kasbah and enjoying supper. A hotel or riad in Ouarzazate will host our evening dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5 : Ouarzazate through Ait Ben Haddou to the High Atlas Mountains and finally to Marrakech

After breakfast, we will journey to the Kasbah of Taourirt, the old residence of the Glaoui or Marrakech pasha. We may also visit the TUE Film Museum and film production facilities, if you’re interested. A half-hour from Ouarzazate, we will visit the ksar (fortified town) of Ait Ben Haddou to see its famed Kasbah (declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986). This world-class set was used to shoot such masterpieces as Gladiator, Obelix, The Mummy, The Jewel of the Nile, and Penélope Cruz’s Sahara.

We’ll have lunch in the town before proceeding to Marrakech through the mountain port of Tizi Ntichka and further photo possibilities. We are leaving this gorgeous region for a more active one. At around 6 p.m., we will take a transfer to the hotel and conclude our 5-day desert tour from Fes to Marrakech there.
